The bandages on the children, I think, are symbols of deformagraphy of innocence. He portrays a child, naiive to the world and all of it's flaw, as innocence...when innocence has been dissheveled, or taught the things that make the world enigmatical...all of the beauty in childhood is lost. In the pictures where marilyn manson is watching a child tamper with a gun, or when a child is shown a woman injecting heroin, it's all a play on innocence.

very interesting work. can anyone tell me the significance of the bandages on the children in helnwein's painting, crocidile rock, lichtkind and beautiful vitims? it would be very helpful as i am researching helnweins work as part of a project in 2nd year art college....

Ich bin frisch auf diese werke gestossen und schlichtweg fasziniert!
Ich stecke grad in meiner Ausbildung zum Grafik/Designer und arbeite schon seid längerem an meiner Fotoarbeit BlackDays/White Nights und bin erstaunt über die parallelen in unseren Fotografien....
Natürlich sind sie bei weitem nicht so atemberaubend, jedoch ist die bedrückende Düsterniss und melancholie spührbar!
Ich würde gerne wissen woher ich evtl. einige Werke als PosterFormat herbekomme?
Eine bereicherrung für meine eigenen Wände....

Helnwein ist mit Meilen weiten Abstand der grandioseste Künstler (auf dieser Welt). Seine Bilder haben eine unglaubliche Aussage- und Anziehungskraft für mich. Und ich warte auch wenn es noch Jahre dauert auf meinen Tag X, wenn Helnwein endlich eine große Ausstellung in Wien macht. Der Tag wird kommen und ich bin als erste dort...
Ich geh jetzt auch euf die Grafische in Wien und es ist noch erdrückender als Helnwein es in manchen Interviews geschildert hat; mal sehen vielleicht hab ich eines Tages auch (einen) Fan(s).

Alike Helnwein, my childhood was not perfect. After being frustated with questions of bullying and death, art has become my voice, a way to scream my opinions.
I can understand why tradionalists may take a negative impression from work, yet should these issues be dealt with any less subtle? Those who find this site confusing or foul, please try to let Helnwein open your eyes to reality.

Hi, deine bilder sind der oberhammer ich find echt keine worte dazu wie man so gut zeichnen kann mit den oil und acryl farben etc. `=)! einfach genial! und diese kinder gesichter die bewegen mich einfach die sind so schön.. ich wäre echt froh wenn es mal so eine austellung in hamburg geben würde, so ein riesen großes gesicht was am sas hotel hängen würde wäre einfach geil!
mach weiter so!
